Medicine Trek: How Far Would You Go to Heal?

Documentary filmmaker Nick Polizzi has seen a lot of amazing things through his work, and in this interview, he talks about what he learned—and what surprised him—during the making of his latest film, The Sacred Science. In this movie, Nick and his team took eight patients from around the world to the Amazon jungle to work with indigenous medicine men for 30 days.

These people, who were suffering from ailments ranging from cancer to diabetes to Parkinson’s disease, had all tried conventional medicine but found it ineffective. Delving into the power of this traditional healing medium, Nick describes not only the physical requirements but also the deep psychological work that participants had to face. He opens our eyes to how accessible these healing mediums are to us, but also to how modern society is slowly growing away from them—and how important it is to preserve them.
